PRIVATE RESIDENCE-SPRINGHEAD
OSECOLA COUNTY, FLORIDA
1995
Designed as a vacation guesthouse, Springhead is a new 2,800 SF residence located on several thousand acres of beautiful forestland in central Florida. The specific 12 acre site was carefully analyzed to integrate the simple yet refined residence in harmony with its surrounding primitive environment. Springhead is designed to take advantage of the natural amphitheater it articulates with views toward a lake to the West, tall pines to the North, palmetto ledge to the South, and sand brush to the East. The building components of rotating volumes explore the dynamic of habitable enclosures, edges, and natural openings which layer toward the surrounding wild. Inside and outside spaces flow together with openings and views permeating the guesthouse envelope. Clerestory, skylight, large bay windows, and tall French doors filter natural light and provide 360 degree visibility to the day and night sky. The concepts are integrated throughout, including the custom designed fireplace overmantle, furniture, rugs, gates, and the selection of furnishings including bed, bath and table linens, table settings, and art work from the Owner’s collection. The predominate two story space with the variety of indoor and landscaped outdoor spaces that surround Springhead have made this site a unique private destination.
